Objective: This study aimed to investigate the Effect of emotion regulation and social skills training on overt and relational aggression and pro-social behaviors in aggressive adolescents in Khorramabad.
Methods: The study population consisted of aggressive adolescents referring to medical and counseling centers in Khorramabad during the academic year 2013-2014. To this end, 45 aggressive adolescents were selected by convenient sampling methods and were randomly assigned into two experimental and control groups using quasi-experimental design with pre-posttest control group. Interventions including emotion regulation and social skills training-based therapy were performed on the experimental group. Crick and Grotpeter's peer selection questionnaire was employed to gather data. The obtained data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance.
Results: Multivariate analysis of variance showed that there was a significant difference between the groups (p<0.01). This significance difference was observed for all three variables (namely overt and relational aggression, pro-social behavior) (p<0.01).
Conclusion: Due to the treatment features of emotional regulation and social skills, they can be employed in order to reduce overt and relational aggression and promote pro-social behaviors in aggressive adolescents.
