Objective: This research investigated the relationship between social skills and behavioral problems in students with mild intellectual disability.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted through descriptive-analytic design. Fifty students with mild intellectual disability were selected through purposive sampling. The data collection tool used was Gresham and Elliot’s (1990) ‘Social Skills Rating System’ (teacher and parent form). This questionnaire has been developed in two parts: social skills and behavioral problems and is completed by both teachers and parents. Pearson’s correlation and linear regression were used for data analysis.

Results: There was a significant relationship between social skills (parent form) and behavioral problems (0.40). Behavioral problems can predict social skills through a coefficient of 0.20.

Conclusions: These results indicate the importance of behavioral problems in social skills training program.
